I had a blast with two of my favorite gals Sunday at AUSTIN's rendition of the RENEGADE craft fair. I loved visiting so many of my favorite ETSY shops in person, as well as saying "Hello" to the ETSY crew.

it's days like these you forget about bills, mortgage, recession... only for a minute.

 Finally got on amazon and found the ink to fit into my early 60's gem.

who knows what will come of it.

As once said by a super creative fellow, " I'm not a writer, but I will be one for now", ( possibly not those exact words but... If you know who I mean, you get what I'm saying.)

A good healthy night regimine of one glass iced tea one glass red wine. type type. photoshop. racking of the brain for a witty description. running two small vintage etsy sites is hard work! While I work, I do play. Here are a few things and people I have run across in the last few weeks on etsy...

Salty and Sweet on etsy. Super amazing siloette mobiles for a family like mine. Mix of nerdy video game and movie references and mid century modern. 

There is a shop THE HOME CENTRIC who makes the most divine pillows, with so much detail and work. I think her pieces are a STEAL. At an average $30 a pillow, nuts! She's out of India, so there is shipping costs, but still a steal!

I received this ring from my dear hubby for Valentine's Day. Made from a "Beautiful, natural, Australian Chrysoprase with varying degrees of  translucency - soft, silky pale green with white and brown mineral  inclusions all encompassed by a sculptural, low profile, brushed,  electroformed band." By MIDWESTALCHEMY 
 I wear it as my wedding ring, of which this makes 5.(I like change, not fancy diamonds)
Her designs are gorgeous, the stones are so unique, no two pieces are ever alike and... they are @ $50!

There is no feeling better for me than a day at the beach. The smell of coppertone and sea water. yum. When it's cold, gray outside there is no place I long for more! I found my fix... the most amazing soaps. And I am very picky about my coconuty scents. KARENSSOAPS are AMAZING!
I have ordered soaps before on etsy and at whole foods, etc... but nothing has made me so nostalgic for the beach.
I ordered Caribbean Coconut and A Day at the Beach.LOVE.

I had a lovely experience with my first buyer. She was a doll from all the way Down Under! Here is she had to say:

"I just received this most amazing vintage lace dress in the mail – I believe it’s from the 1960s. I bought it from Etsy last week, and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival. It’s a really wonderful cut – I love the long sleeves & the little pleat at the front. It even has lace-covered buttons! In general, I’m not someone who wears a lot of tan, but somehow this dress calls for these tan boots which I discovered at a market sometime last year."(vintage dress from RecoveredVintage, vintage boots from St Andrews market)

Back in September, after much encouragement from friends and family, I decided to post some of my original designs on one of my etsy pages I have for jewelry mistyincontrera. The pieces are completely unique made from recycled computer parts I acquired from my late father-in-law. This week, while wandering through etsy searching the key word computer, I ran across a person who attempted to make the same pieces as mine, using the exact aluminum rectangle I acquired from michael's. (And the computer resistors. )The even crazier part is, there was an extra ring attached to the rectangle I removed and they did too. Don't want to bore you with all the super obvious similarities, but there are sooo many. Except for the quality. I won't go into that either but draw your own conclusions. (will post pic soon)

I attempted to contact the person respectfully and have yet to receive a response. I had a coworker write the letter for me so that I did not act on too much emotion.

The most amazing part of this story is that I have linked all my sites to GOOGLE ANALYTICS (such an amazing and free statistic analyzing tool) that tells me where, when and who was looking at my sight and products down to the most specific detail. I have all the data that connects this person to looking at the necklace various times, perhaps a study of my original design. Interesting side note I posted my pieces in september and theirs was in November.

So from this point on, I will never post an original design that can be duplicated in some way.

I was too trusting and so many people lack a since of moral character, that it saddens my litte heart! tear. tear.

Sorry for the rant, I had to get this one out of my head! So I can move on! DEEP BREATH!

Think of ROPE. Usually one thing comes to mind, a simple singular function, to tie something down. When I think of it, I think of one of my favorite movies by Alfred Hitchcock. But lately I'm loving it as my new accessory. I was inspired by this picture. After that, I picked up several types and colors of rope and cord for super cheap (some for even 10 cents a yard). I had to replicate the rope on the hat for my husband, it looked so great. Now I've gone much further than that. Belts and necklaces to start, but still brainstorming. I have found some great artists on Flickr making great pieces too. Take a look. M-

THE VIRGINS

I first heard The Virgins booming over loud speakers while working. I thought it was catchy, but the sound seemed like it would come out of American apparel clad hipsters. The song really grabbed me so I decided to find out more about these guys, what they looked like, etc… Found a few things on youtube and NME. These new wave crooners looked like gutter punks with tattered jeans and old members only jackets. These images reminded me of my first time seeing the Ramones and the Strokes. A New York band that’s look and style embodied the culture of the City that never sleeps. They have a great juxtaposition as ugly models wearing designer jeans that look like they’ve been through a wood chipper. Brilliant! Their debut album is self-titled. Some key tracks are: One Week of Danger, Rich Girls, Teen Lovers, and my new favorite Private Affair. Be sure to check them out. S-

Love this Artist, AshleyG. I found her last year on etsy and bought a piece for Steven for Christmas. We've since started a Christmas tradition. This is the piece we purchased this year.
